HARGEISA- The Justice Secretary of Waddani opposition party, Barkhad Jama Hersi, said the police of Somaliland is not impartial and independent. He said the government uses the police to suppress the opposition and the public.

Speaking at a press conference Barkhad accused the police of abuse.

"The police targets Waddani. Two of our members are in detention,” he said.

Barkhad blamed the Police Commissionaire, Abdillahi Fadal Iman, whom he said is politicising the police.

"He {the Police Commissionaire} arrests anyone who criticizes him. A journalist is in detention in four days because of the Police Commissionaire.”

"We are informing the people of Somaliland that we no longer trust the police. It is partial institution,”

The deputy police commissionaire, Abdirahman Liban, responding to the allegations said civilian people to accuse the police is wrong.

"We are impartial. We treat the political parties neutrally,” he added.

Liban said the two jailed Waddani members committed crime and will be brought to court to face prosecutions.
