Hargeisa- Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi Irro, the chairman of Waddani opposition party, called on the President of Somaliland to resign or face impeachment.

"President Muse Behi Abdi violated the constitution. He committed a high treason,” he said.

In a press conference held in Hargeisa, Irro said: "suppression and dictatorship are on the horizon.”

Irro compared the government of Somaliland with that of the military regime of Siad Barre.

"Politics is not lying to your people. It is clear that the people of Somaliland have been cheated by the Kulmiye government,” he added.

Irro said the President was part of a conspiracy against the independence of Somaliland by allowing Somalia to enter an agreement over Berbera port on behalf of Somaliland.

Somaliland has transferred Berbera port to United Arab Emeritus (UAE) owned company called DP World. According to the government of Somaliland, the deal was between Somaliland and UAE and will boost the economy of the country.

Irro claims that a recent interview given by the UAE state minister of foreign affairs disclosed a secret in which Somaliland accepted Somalia to make an agreement over Berbera port.

The government of Somaliland has not yet commented these new allegations.

Irro also leveled accusations against former president Ahmed Silanyo who left office on 13 December 2017.

"Silanyo left behind a dark history. He damaged the state and its independence. He committed a high treason. He sold the sovereignty and independence of Somaliland in exchange of money and personal interests,” he said.

He added: "Silanyo broke the constitution. He should be brought before a court for high treason.”

Irro gave an ultimatum to president Muse Behi either to resign and hold an early election or to face impeachment.

It is not clear how impeachment could proceed in a parliament whose majority is from the ruling party, Kulmiye.
