Hargeisa- The regional court in Hargeisa has given jail terms to two people.

A court in Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland, has jailed a young man called Mohamed Kayse Mohamoud, to 18 months jail.

The court said it found him guilty of offending the honour of the President.

The judge Mohamed has posted on his Facebook account statement saying "a president is a local.”

Another judge at the court also sentenced poet Naema Ahmed Ibrahim to 3 years of imprisonment over "insult and defamation against the state.”

Naema was arrested on 27th January 2018 from Hargeisa Egal International Airport while she was traveling to Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.

Human Rights Centre of Somaliland called these sentences as against the freedom of expression. Guleid Ahmed Jama said in a statement that his organization is very concerned about the recent developments.
