Hargeisa - A delegation headed by the first deputy chairman of the ruling party is in the eastern regions of Somaliland in an attempt to garner support.

An imam and member of the Muslim Brotherhood chapter in Somaliland, Abdiazis Samale, who was elected as the first deputy chairman of the ruling party, Kulmiye, in August 2023, is leading a delegation touring the eastern regions of Somaliland.

The political tour, led by Samale and accompanied by ministers and other government officials, commenced in the Togdheer region. Togdheer region is the second most populous in Somaliland.

Analysts say that the presidency will go wherever Togdheer goes.

The ruling party leadership asked the people to re-elect President Muse Bihi Abdi, who is seeking re-election amid the security and economic crisis.

Abdi, a former military pilot, is facing a big challenge from Abdirahman Irro of the Waddani party. Irro, a former diplomat and speaker of the House of Representatives, is contesting to unseat Abdi by promising economic stability and social cohesion.

Although the campaign has not officially started, the two main parties have been convening meetings and conferences to get supporters.
