Hargeisa – President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi (Irro) on Monday announced a significant reduction in electricity prices in Borama, lowering the cost from $0.7 cents per kilowatt to $0.5, effective November 1, 2025.

The announcement follows similar decisions in recent weeks that reduced electricity tariffs in Burao, Berbera, and Gabiley.

The wave of reductions has been widely welcomed by the public, who have long struggled with the high cost of electricity—an expense that has negatively impacted households, businesses, and the broader economy.

According to the president, the government’s long-term goal is to lower electricity prices to $0.3 cents per kilowatt by November 2026, making power more affordable and boosting economic growth.
