Hargeisa- The National Electoral Commission today announced the number of the citizens registered to vote the upcoming 13th November 2017 presidential election.
The Commission declared that 873, 331 persons have registered themselves to vote the upcoming elections.
In 2016 the National Electoral Commission carried out a nationwide voter registration exercise by using an iris-based biometric system to prevent duplicate registrations.
The people who registered to vote were not given voter cards. The Commission says the voter cards distribution will commence at Awdal and Sahil regions and coastal areas of Sanaag region on 29th April 2017.
The final list of voters will be released by the Commission after the cards are distributed, Abdiqadir Iman the chairman of the Electoral Commission said.
In Maroodijeeh region, which Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland is located, 312, 364 people were registered. In Togdheer 178,506 people were register, in Sahil 78,842, Sool: 71,096, Sanaag: 85,222 and Awdal 147,031.
