Hargeisa- Today, an appeal court in Hargeisa heard an appeal submitted by the lawyer of jailed journalist Dirir.

Mohamed Adan Dirir was sentenced by a court to 18 months in jail for "defamation and circulation of false news.”

The conviction was related to articles purportedly written by Dirir and accused a privately owned school of a sexual misconduct and management.

The hearing was concluded today, and the court is expected to deliver its judgment.

In Gabiley, west of Hargeisa, a court set the trial date of another journalist, Abdirisak Dayib Ali, who is facing criminal charges.

Two other journalists were remanded by court in Berbera in this week

Human rights organization condemned the cracking down of journalists.
