In the middle of a severe drought that hit the eastern regions of Somaliland, President Ahmed Silanyo, cabinet members and ruling party leaders toured the drought affected regions to assess the situation, according to senior government official. Nationwide fundraising campaign has been continuing in Somaliland to collect food ration and water for thousands of rural people who are in need of emergency support, according to Somaliland Civil Society Organizations who appealed support. "The extent of the emergency is beyond the local capacity and resources,” says Somaliland Civil Society in a statement issued from Hargeisa on 17th November 2016. The government appointed a committee consisting of religious leaders, businessmen, government officials and other prominent figures to spearheaded efforts aimed to amass local assistance.
