Hussein M. Adam, associate professor of political science at the College of the Holly Cross, was well respected Somali scholar, and widely valued in Africa and beyond. He founded and presided Somali Studies International Association
He was a member of the African Studies Association, the World Bank Council of African Advisors, and the African Association of Political Science.
Adam was born in Arusha, Tanzania, to a father from Somaliland and a mother with mixed blood of Masai mother and Indian father. From his birth place, Somalis know him as Xuseen Tanzaani.
Adam authored many books including From Tyranny to Anarchy and numerous articles. He attained his Ph.D in political science from Harvard.
