HARGEISA- The president's advisor on elections, Abdilaahi Abdi Haji Omar, resigned today and accused the National Electoral Commission of ineffectiveness and lack of transparency.

Abdilaahi criticized the National Electoral Commission and alluded that their work is dictated by the presidency.

"They {the National Electoral Commission} are not on the process of holding election. I have seen that they are given orders and dictates which they follow. That will later create problems,” he said.

The National Electoral Commission (NED) shall be independent, he added.

Abdilaahi today resigned from his position as the elections advisor to the President.
