Mohamed Adan Dirir was sentenced by a court to 18 months in jail for "defamation and circulation of false news.”
The conviction was related to articles purportedly written by Dirir and accused a privately owned school of a sexual misconduct and management.
The hearing was concluded today, and the court is expected to deliver its judgment.
In Gabiley, west of Hargeisa, a court set the trial date of another journalist, Abdirisak Dayib Ali, who is facing criminal charges.
