The president of Somaliland H.E Muse Behi Abdi hosted an event at the presidency to celebrate the Independence Day.

After getting independence from Great Britain on 26^th June 1960, Somaliland immediately united with Somalia to form the Somali Republic on 1^st July 1960.

Somaliland declared restoration of independence from Somalia on 18^th May 1991.

Unlike many countries in Africa, Somaliland downgrades the Independence Day but focuses on 18^th May, the day Somaliland declared separation from Somalia.
