Hargeisa - The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), yesterday attended the National Justice, where he delivered a significant and forward-looking keynote address.

This conference—the first of its kind in 14 years—was organised by the Ministry of Justice under the leadership of Minister Yoonis Ahmed Yoonis, in collaboration with international partners.

The two-day event brings together key justice sector institutions, legal experts, civil society, security agencies, and international stakeholders. Its primary focus is to advance a modern, independent, transparent, and citizen-centred justice system that protects fundamental rights and strengthens the rule of law across Somaliland.

"Justice is the foundation of the nation”

In his speech, President Cirro emphasised that justice is the cornerstone of state-building, noting that no nation can achieve sustainable development or stability without a judicial system that treats all citizens equally—regardless of their social status, background, or economic means.

He stated that justice plays a decisive role in every aspect of national life:
security, stability, economic growth, public administration, and the unity of the people.

"You have gathered here as independent experts and practitioners to thoroughly examine the justice system,” the President said. "Your knowledge and experience will help highlight what is working well, what needs adjustment, and what must be added to build a stronger, more credible system.”

He reiterated that promoting justice and upholding the rule of law remain central to the commitments of his government, noting that reforming the justice sector is essential to addressing public grievances and ensuring citizens receive fair and equal treatment under the law.
