Hargeisa- Centre for Policy Analysis (CPA), a think tank based in Hargeisa expresses a deep concern over the detention of Ahmed Hussein Abdi, the spokesperson of Human Rights Centre, and the charges against Guleid Ahmed Jama, the chairperson of Human Rights Centre.
"The human rights defenders should be allowed to operate freely without restrictions and intimidation. Their work is important for democracy, rule of law and accountability. It is a constitutionally guaranteed and necessary constituent for democratic country,” CPA said in a statement.
"The civil society has a right to demand. Therefore, the petition demanding police reform organized by Human Rights Centre is a key component of their work and should be welcomed. As a post-conflict country, Somaliland institutions need a reform to comply the constitution, the international standards and the dynamic changes of the society,” CPA added.
CPA calls on the government to immediately release Ahmed Hussein Abdi and drop all charges against him and Guleid Ahmed Jama.
