Hargeisa- The UK government will not invite Somaliland to attend a donor meeting that will be held in London in May this year due to the delayed elections in Somaliland, Andew Allen, the Deputy UK Ambassador to Somalia discloses at a press conference held on Tuesday in Hargeisa.
"There was an opportunity for a new government to come to the conference if the elections had been held in March, as promised, "Deputy British Ambassador Andrew Allen told journalists in Hargeisa.
"But the elections have been postponed again and again and will not take place until November. So, we cannot invite the current government. We wanted to work with a new government because the conference will pledge aid for the next four years,” he added.
Somaliland repeatedly postponed elections which angered the international community and lead to further isolation of Somaliland.
