Hargeisa-Today, the Upper House of the Parliament, the Guurti, extended the presidential term until 13th December 2017. The House also extended the terms of the House of Representatives and the councillors of the local governments until 2019.
In an overwhelming majority, the House members agree a proposal from the president asking the House to push back the presidential election scheduled on March 2017.
In January, the President and the political parties agreed to postpone the presidential election due to "drought”.
The term of the incumbent president, Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo, expired July 2015. The House of Representatives were elected in 2005 in five years term.
